Magento 1 in 2025: Why 6,000+ Businesses Still Haven’t Moved On
It might come as a surprise, but Magento 1 is still in use more than you’d expect. Below are some interesting usage statistics.
❓If a business chooses to upgrade this year, should it move to Magento 2, or opt for an entirely different platform?
Over 6,000 businesses still rely on Magento 1 to power their e-commerce operations. Many of these websites are active businesses: you can enter your credit card details (if you’re feeling brave, of course) and have your products delivered.
Some of them are running the Enterprise Edition, and Adobe continues to charge substantial license fees despite officially ending support for the M1 platform in June 2020.
While a number of businesses have turned their M1 websites into fully custom solutions that work fine for their needs, others are likely stuck with an outdated, insecure platform that is difficult to adapt to today’s e-commerce realities. Is it time to move on for the greater good of the business?
(Apologies for casting Magento 1 as the silly dragon. One of the platforms had to take the role!)
