Magento migration trends
As of early 2025, according to some stats, there are about 1 mln active online shops in the world. Opening a store isn’t a big deal nowadays, but running it is a challenging business and requires a proper toolset. Companies outgrow their old e-commerce platforms or want to use newest technology or simply reduce running costs. In 2024 Commercetools released a comprehensive report on e-commerce platform migration of bigger stores(starting from $500 mln revenue), and this of course doesn’t represent the whole market, especially smaller businesses, still it provides some insights and ideas for thoughts. Based on their data, only 14% of online stores are completely satisfied with their ecommerce platform. What drives businesses to invest into this expensive venture? Key factors below:

We took a random sample of 4,500 stores that were confirmed to be using Magento or Adobe Commerce just 1.5 years ago, and checked what platforms they employ now. All these stores are located in the US, UK, and Canada, also to make the research results more homogenous.
After 1.5 years 16.57% migrated from Magento/Adobe to other platforms:
Those who migrated preferred Shopify to other platforms(45%), with Woocommerce coming in second with a big margin:
